Abstract
In this short article we will discuss the evidence that supports a role of resting brain activity in the construction of our memories, especially in our personal narrative, which define us as individuals and is essential to our autobiographical consciousness. We will place particular emphasis on what we call inner speech, that is, that inner voice that most of us feel and that constitutes a very important part of our subjective existence. To do this we will first briefly refer to the mechanisms of memory consolidation, to establish a relationship between these and the networks of activity at rest (or by default), ending with the role of internal speech as an articulatory mechanism of mental life.
